The Saints Cyril and Methodius Cathedral is the principal Czech and Slovak Orthodox Church in Prague.
In 1942, during World War II, the cathedral was the scene of the last stand of a number of Czech and Slovak patriots who, in Operation Anthropoid, had assassinated Reinhard Heydrich. German troops stormed the church on 18 June 1942 and after a fierce gun battle, two of the Czechoslovaks were killed and the rest committed suicide to avoid capture.
The Church of Saint Nicholas is a Baroque church. It was built between 1704-1755 on the site where formerly a Gothic church from the 13th century stood, which was also dedicated to Saint Nicholas. It has been described as the greatest example of Prague Baroque.
