St. George slaying a dragon
St Martin's Cathedral is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bratislava. It is the largest and one of the oldest churches in Bratislava, known especially for being the coronation church of the Kingdom of Hungary between 1563 and 1830. The cathedral contains the remains of Saint John the Merciful who died in the early 7th Century.
Construction began in 1311 and continued until 1452 due to the difficulty of construction and lack of funding. The tower is topped by a gold-plated replica of the Crown of St. Stephen, also known as the the Holy Crown of Hungary, which was the coronation crown used by the Kingdom of Hungary; kings have been crowned with it since the twelfth century.
