Margaret Island is an island in the middle of the Danube River. It is mostly covered by landscape parks and is a popular recreational area. The island was called Insula leporum before being named after Saint Margaret (1242–1270) in the 14th century. Margaret was the daughter of Béla IV of Hungary and lived in the Dominican convent on the island.

Fisherman's Bastion was built between 1895 and 1902. Its seven high-pitched stone towers symbolize the seven chieftains of the Hungarians who founded Hungary in 895. Its name derives from the section of the Buda City Wall entrusted to the guild of fishermen that in wars defended the city walls.
