Portugal and Spain

April 20 - May 8, 2022

The itinerary:

  5. Lagos - April 24
  6. Tavira - April 24
  7. Évora - April 25
  8. Sintra - April 25-26

  10. Fatima - April 27
  11. Porto - April 27-29
  12. Douro Valley - April 29-May 3
  13. San Asensio - May 3-7
  14. Bilbao - May 7-8

The plan was to fly to Lisbon, Portugal, where we would be joined by Jennifer and Jason. We would rent a car and drive to the Duoro Valley to visit wineries in the region, with some stops in between for some sightseeing. Then we would fly to Bilbao, Spain, rent a car and drive to San Asenio to visit wineries in the Rioja wine region, before returning to Bilbao to fly back home.

That was the plan.

On April 26 in Sintra, Jason and Michael tested positive with COVID and so did Bev a couple of days later. So we didn't get to visit wineries, we had to drive from Portugal to Spain instead of flying, and we had to jump through hoops to get clearance to fly back to Virginia.
