The Ascensor da Glória (Glória Funicular), sometimes known as the Elevador da Glória (Glória Lift), connects the Pombaline downtown (at the Restauradores Square) with the Bairro Alto (Upper Neighborhood).
The line consists of two cars permanently attached to opposite ends of a cable, which is looped over a pulley at the upper end of the track. The cable links the two cars together so that they ascend and descend simultaneously, each car acting as a counterweight for the other one.
Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara (Viewpoint of São Pedro in Alcântara) is a garden with a panoramic view across the city to St. George's Castle and central Lisbon. A map made of tiles marks all the distinctive buildings, and the lower geometric garden contains busts of heroes and gods from Greco-Roman mythology.
