The Collegiate Church was built in the 12th century. The religious community that lived in those walls between the 12th and the 18th century was a college of Canons following the rule of Saint Augustin. Today the Collegiate Church is the parish church of Saint-Émilion.
Château Pétrus produces a red wine entirely from Merlot grapes and produces no second wine. Pétrus is widely regarded as the outstanding wine of the Pomerol appellation. Pétrus wines rank consistently among the world's most expensive, priced at an average of $2,630.
