The Columbus Monument to Christopher Columbus is at the lower end of La Rambla. It was constructed for the 1888 Exposición Universal de Barcelona (Barcelona Universal Exhibition) in honor of Columbus' first voyage to the Americas. The monument serves as a reminder that Christopher Columbus reported to Queen Isabella I and King Ferdinand V in Barcelona after his first trip to the new continent.

 

 

 

Serafí Pitarra Monument

A monument dedicated to Frederic Soler i Hubert (1839-1895), a prominent 19th-century Catalan playwright known by his pen name Serafí Pitarra.

 

 

The dragon and umbrella are featured on the Casa Bruno Cuadros, also known as the House of Umbrellas. The 19th-century building's facade was designed by architect Josep Vilaseca for an umbrella shop and includes Egyptian and Oriental motifs, the large wrought-iron Chinese dragon, and decorative umbrellas. The dragon, a symbol of bringing rain, was used to advertise the umbrella shop.
